little things

Simple question for today: what makes you happy? Is it the first cup of coffee in the morning or sleeping in on the weekend? Or, is it the littlest things in life that give us the upmost amount of happiness? For my post today, I feel I should write about this. Given the fact, my first post was about being grateful. (There may be a pattern here..) Today’s post is simple but it’s also the least focused on in our world and society.
I’ve done research on this topic in my psychology class and also polls on my Instagram just to see how others have thought this on a daily basis. It’s just that simple question, what make you happy? Most will say the bigger things such as their job, school degree plans, etc. But what if we shifted our thoughts to the smallest things life gives us? Such as, the random gift from a friend because they just wanted to, or even the delicious meal that was made for you for dinner. These are the small things we usually take for granted. This year, I’ve prepared myself to write this post for others but also for myself as well. I sometimes find myself taking things for granted and not wondering if I will get that blessing again. I sometimes take God for granted and am ashamed for it. How can we stop this mindset? Become more grateful and take each day with peace. We are in control of our own emotions and how we see things.
Little things could be going on a nice walk, reading a book out on the porch with music, or even watching the sunset’s colors you usually don’t see during the daytime. It could be anything that makes you look back in the past and wonder if those little things became something big for you after all. It teaches us that life is not so stressful and exhausting if you just take one step at a time and look at what you have so far. Live for the little things in life. Cherish them. You never know if you’ll get that moment again. Who knows, life is full of surprises and lessons, but each one can make you stronger if you let it :)
